In this edition the blog I want to share with you my passion for art. As I mentioned to you before in previous post that as a child I would spend countless hours sketching away, I would even go about making my own comic books. What used to drive me to sketching was my big imagination and often times my dreams, I would want to document them in paper because there was no way for me to explain my dreams to anyone. As time went by my interest in art grew, however realistically I knew that illustrating could not be my career. Sketching fashion dolls was a big reason why I choose to become a Fashion Designer. This was a great combo because I get the best of both worlds FASHION and ART , I couldn’t be happier.

In college I began exploring Fashion Illustration and took every single class, I explored many types of mediums; one of my favorites was acrylics and color pencil. As a result to taking all the classes I am now a certified Fashion Illustrator. So how does Fashion Illustration help a Fashion Designer? Well you see sometimes when I have a custom order for a client it helps to paint a picture of the product before it’s produced. It also helps me when developing a collection. Since I am a visual person sketching each garments help me see if the collection will flow smoothly or if it will be cohesive. However there are times when I jot down small descriptions of each of the looks and then translated into a fashion illustration.

When I sketch a garment it gives me a lot of inspiration to bring it to life. I have to admit sometimes I can get carried away and by sketching complicated garments that when it comes to pattern drafting or draping I’m like how on earth do I do this. So I have to reel in my imagination into garments that I know I can achieve. When I compare the final product with my illustration I get an amazing feeling the sense of accomplishment, because they look remotely the same. This guaranties me that if I sketch for a potential customer that the sketch can be translated into a real life version.
